The Journal of Ferrari History
Cavallino is the journal of Ferrari history, covering Ferraris old and new for over 40 years. It's the most reliable, most trusted source of everything Ferrari. Ever since the first issue in 1978 Cavallino presents extensive stories and detailed information from knowledgeable experts and enthusiasts who share the passion for Ferrari. All Ferraris are unique, and each one has its own chassis serial number. This is how the Ferrari world keeps track of all the great cars. Cavallino is the only publication that prints the serial number for every Ferrari mentioned in our stories, articles, and race results.

17 | Notizie | A Tribute to the Past Techno Classica, Essen, Germany Andreas Birner Andreas Birner, Andreas Meiniger The "Techno Classica" is held annually in the spring in Essen, Germany, and it claims to be the world's largest classic car exposition. However, it is a least the most important show of its kind in Europe, and thus the Techno Classica usually attracts many dealers who have one or several Ferraris on offer. |
20 | Mercato | Mercato The market as of June 1, 2000, from a survey of selected dealers |
24 | Feature | Ferrari 550 Millenio The second generation racing 550 Maranello is presented GT Racing Development Andreas Birner The 550 Millenio is a limited edition racing version of the Ferrari 550 Maranello. It is intended for professional international Grand Touring racing as defined by the Fédération de l'Automobile (FIA) and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO). The most sophisticated technical specifications and materials have been used in the design of the Ferrari 550 Millenio, in order to assure its success in the FIA GT Championship and the 24 Hours of Le Mans. |
29 | Feature | French connection; Jacques Peron's export A Paris businessman goes racing in the 1950s. The tale of his mount, s/n 0096E Marcel Massini Peter S. Linney, Courtesy of Marcel Massini Enzo Ferrari's personal interest has always been racing and nothing else. To finance his extremely expensive occupation he naturally needed prominent supporters and wealthy clients. In Europe he quickly found numerous racing oriented clients, and one of these was Jacques Henri Peron, a French industrialist who was born in Paris. This succesful businessman was thirty nine years old when he bought his first competition Ferrari in 1951. |
40 | Feature | Buoyant Barchetta; Always a Winner This little 166 MM, s/n 0010M, doesn't know failure Alan Boe Alan Boe All old Ferraris have a story to tell but most never get the words out. That, however, is not the case with the magnificent little Ferrari 166 MM Touring bodied Barchetta before you, which had its story told in Cavallino twelve years ago. A lot has happened to the car since that 1988 article, so much so that it's worth another look because this is one of the most important Ferraris of them all. |
47 | Feature | A GTO Mystery solved The real story of the Michel Paul-Cavalier 330 GTO, s/n 4561 SA Keith Bluemel Keith Bluemel For many years, we were all wrong about the Ferrari 330 GTO, s/n 4561 SA. The truth is uncovered and unravelled. |
52 | Corse | Ferrari 360 Challenge at Speed A professional driver straps in and takes you for a ride Bill Adam David Brady When I first laid eyes on photos of the new 360 Modena, I quite honestly didn't much care for the car. But like many things in life, the 360 Modena is far more attractive in real life than it is in photographs and the Challenge version is simply stunning. |
56 | Corse | Ferrari's early racing season FIA Formula One Championship Marc Sonnery The F1-2000's initial promise was solidly confirmed on the first proper day of dry weather testing. After doing some set up work with hardly any shake down problems, Michael Schumacher very comprehensively beat the Mugello lap record by 1.7 seconds! 57 | Corse | Endurance Racing update Marc Sonnery The perils of covering racing programs as they occur is that they can change after deadline, and this is the case of the F550 GT which was introduced and covered in the last issue. Red Racing will not, after all, participate in the Fench GT series or, unfortunately, Le Mans, but will instead joust in the booming Spanish GT series. As we went to press it is one of no less than ten Ferraris scheduled to compete on the Iberic peninsula, along with five F355s and four 360 Modenas. |
60 | Corse | Tour Auto survives mishap Tour Auto, Paris to Biarritz, France Marcel Massini, Pierre Goossens, Andreas Meiniger, Henry Kistler Pierre Goossens, Dion Bosch At the Trocadero in paris before the start of the Tour Auto, where the cars are entered and the credentials are issued and the inspections take place, it is a good time to see many great Ferraris as well as other marques, and to meet just about anyone who is anyone in automobiles in Europe. |
